So, How To Answer “ Tell Me About Yourself ” Question The Best?
1. Don’t tell anything not important
When the manager asking you “tell me about yourself”, well you should be careful with your answer. Don’t tell them about your life story that isn’t really important and waste their time.
What you should tell them is what are you bringing to the table, that equals what value could you bring to the company. What problems can you solve for the company? That is what they’re asking
2. Don’t be yourself, but be your best self
You might have so much confidence in yourself and you were thinking to just want to be yourself during the interview. Yes, you should be yourself but be your best self.
You need to be authentic but don’t be fake. Everything that you tell them and every statement that you make must tie it back to what’s in it for them.
Examples :
Let's say you applying for a social media marketing position and your answer is like this
“ well I have a small business in which I open orders for custom cakes and pastry for parties or events. I promote my business through social media and going pretty well. But I need more money to establish my business bigger, so I apply to this job to get more income.”
The problem of this answer is all about you, you, and you. There is no benefit that they can see from your story. From the manager's perspective, it doesn’t make any impression, so don’t do this and think back again on what’s in it for them. So I give you the formula on how to answer this question the best
3. The Three S Formula
a. Success
When they ask you “tell me about yourself”, try to answer with this formula
“I have been…”
“My background is…”
Examples :
“I have been using social media to grow my business as brand-awareness for about 2 years. I have increased my sales to promoting my business with Instagram ads and Facebook Ads and reach more customers since then”
That is how you should answer the question, simple but without bragging.
b. Strength
You can share with them about your strength, what your real strength. Think about it.
“ My strength is…”
Examples :
“My strength is I can understand what the audience/customers want and by then, I make engaging and compelling content and create the best strategy to attract their attraction to us”
c. Situation
“ What I am looking for…”
This is about what are you looking for in the company that benefits you, but it also what the company is looking for
Examples :
“ What I am looking for is a company that I could add value to, that I could produce a positive return on investment for”
“What I am looking for is to join a strong team”
BE PREPARED
As I already mention in “The Three S Formula” previously, what you need to do next is, take your pen, write it down, and practice it out as much as u can. Use this formula as your script.
